Most years we have a morning service at the Kaukapakapa Community Hall. The typical plan and email out would be:
As most of you are aware the Group attends the annual ANZAC Service held at the Kaukapakapa Memorial Hall. Youth members to be in uniform and smartly turned out.
Youth members to assemble at the Fire Station end of the carpark by 9:45
Parade forms at 9:50
Service begins at 10:00
Refreshments will be available in the Hall after the service. If weather is inclement service will move indoors.
Any Scouts or Venturers available from 9:15 we would like your help setting out chairs and setting up tables. This will count as Community Service.
If you are attending a service in another area please let your Section Leaders know next week when you return for the term so that they can credit your child for attendance
In the past we have joined in on the Helensville main street parade and service too. And sometime the Scouts join in the dawn service at Parakai as part of an ANZAC weekend camp etc.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow . . .
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup plain flour
1 cup sugar
3/4 (three-quarters) cup coconut
125g butter
2 tablespoons golden syrup
½ (half) teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
1 tablespoon boiling water
Combine oats, sifted flour, sugar and coconut.
Combine butter and golden syrup, stir over gentle heat until melted.
Mix soda with boiling water, add to melted butter mixture, stir into dry ingredients.
Take teaspoonfuls of mixture, rolling into a firm ball, and press onto a lightly greased oven trays; allow 10 cm diameter for spreading.
Cook in slow oven 150°C for 20 minutes, or until a mid-brown colour.
Loosen while still warm, then cool on trays.
Makes about 20 to 30 depending on mixture ball size.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them
